Project Vision

Holistic Development of Girl Children by Increasing their Participation in Sports which will lead to a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Project Description

The project will be implemented across the 175 Sharde Hostels through a three pronged approach:-

 

Infrastructure

Coaching

National and State Sports Tournament

Building Infrastructure to support the activities in school.

Providing Coaching to facilitate rigorous and safe training.

Encouraging students to participate in national and state tournaments.

 

Three Pronged Approach:-

  1. Infrastructure:- Each of the 175 Sharde Hostel will develop sports facilities for girls. This will include the supply of sports equipment and materials for the chosen indoor/outdoor games.
  2. Coaching:- Every Sharde Hostel will have a coaching staff [ for any one selected sport based on student preference ]that will train girls for 90 days.
  3. National and State Sports Meet:- Sharde hostel girls will be encouraged to participate in various annual sports competitions at both national and state level.

Project Outcomes

Project Need

As sports are traditionally male dominated in Rajasthan, the participation of girls in sports is relatively lower than their boy counterparts. The project aims to break deep-rooted attitudes held by girls, boys, families and communities and encourage girls to participate in various indoor and outdoor sports activities.

 

Presently Sharde Hostels have limited access to sports infrastructure. There is inadequate availability of sports equipment and staff across all indoor and outdoor sports.

 

About Sharde Hostels:

 

In the 186 educationally backward blocks of the state, girls’ hostels were opened by the government to ensure retention of girls in secondary school. Out of 186 educationally backward blocks of the state, Rajasthan has already built girls hostel in 175 blocks. These 175 hostels cater to the needs of 17,500 girls across 31 districts. These 17,500 girls belong to SC, ST, Minority and BPL families; half of them coming from KGBVs, who may drop out if such hostels are not available.

 

These girls do not have sufficient support and resources at home to continue their studies. Hence, it is necessary to retain girls at hostels and ensure they complete their secondary education.

Implementation Plan

Once the project is funded for Government Implementation, these will be the deliverables on the part of the government:-

Year 1:-

●       Hire trained coaching staff

●       Develop sports facilities in each hostel

●       Begin first year of coaching

 

Year 2:-

  • Second year of Coaching
  • Send students to various sports meet
  • Equipment maintenance

Project Case Study

The benefits of girls participating in sports are well documented and studied. Some of the numerous benefits are:-

 

  • Better physical health. Girls involved in sports have healthier and stronger bodies. They are less likely to suffer from chronic diseases later in life.
  • Better performance in school. Girls playing sports have more focus and are better at managing their time and setting goals. Participating in sports is correlated to increased energy and motivation in schoolwork.
  • Sports help girls develop leadership skills, self-reliance and self-discipline. Sports allow girls to practice various life skills, such as leadership, self-reliance, and self-discipline, in a healthy environment. This often translates to professional success later in life.
